Every time I pray the Act of Contrition the line above stands out for me. I am sorrowful of my sinfulness, so the rest of the prayer is of course an important part of repenting and seeking forgiveness. But the idea of the help of His grace is, for me, where healing and renewal can really begin.
As they should be, the Act of Contrition, reconciliation, and seeking forgiveness will certainly be present in our prayers during this Lenten journey. But no matter what ‘season’ we are in, how much better would we find our situations, decisions, and difficulties if we encountered them with the help of His grace? Can we allow—welcome—that grace into our hearts to accompany us always?
This beautiful phrase, though tucked within a meaningful and significant prayer, is a powerful, hopeful, and encouraging notion on its own. Let’s not overlook this invitation to proceed in all things with the help of His grace.
